What is Bolus Maximus??

Sometime in 2017, two men - both living with Diabetes, talked about the lack of safe spaces for males to communicate, express themselves, and open up.

While they were not the first to notice this problem - their personal need for such a place became a necessity in 2020. We’re here for everyone, but geared towards men and those living in under-served communities.

BOLUS - A single dose of a drug or other medicinal preparation given all at once. Term used when people with Diabetes associate their insulin intake, with the food they are eating.

MAXIMUS - The name ‘Maximus’ means “The Greatest” and is of Latin origin. In Bolus Maximus, it focuses on the belief that men NEED to be the greatest example of strength - all the time. Our goal is to break the stigmatism and have sharing our emotions play a larger role in our lives with Diabetes.

We encourage anyone living with Diabetes to be the best version of yourself and apply maximum effort to care for your needs. Just remember its OK to ask for help, show emotions, or have bad days.

Knowing that we’re not alone in this fight - was the foundation that started this organization.

The desire to help others succeed constantly drives our ambition. We want to help you, you will help us, and together we’ll help others.

It’s about connecting men with Diabetes, opening the conversation, and encouraging progress by sharing stories. Developing programs for 2022 and beyond has already started - there will be community events around the country.

Clinical resources and future programs are going to help simplify the process so more people can learn fundamentals.

While talking at length about their own personal efforts to better themselves - they met a lot of men with similar stories.

The movement to get guys talking and raising confidence starts now.

Let’s talk about tough stuff..

Maximum Potential

The idea behind Bolus Maximus began in late 2017 when Matt and Brandon started having weekly discussions about living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Coming from completely different backgrounds, the two had a lot in common when they thought about their individual situations.

The overwhelming lack of support, motivation, and a feeling of honesty in the Diabetes community was starting to take a toll.

We’ve evolved from discussion about supporting others in similar positions on Sunday Zoom calls and will be hosting events (in-person) as soon as we’re allowed to in 2021.

Since men are not always highlighted as asking for help - we want to change the narrative. We’ll start by making the information easier to access and understand.

To this point - the sheer lack of black faces on the boards of organizations will see Brandon A. Denson at the helm of this movement.

A stand-out line-backer and walk-on at Michigan St. - Brandon has played football at the highest level while living with Diabetes. His devotion to the community - specifically while working with young black diabetics is inspiring.

Extreme sports suit Brandon’s counter-part, Matt Tarro, who grew up in a medical family and spent 10-years in digital advertising, media, and marketing. With a background in creative design and brand development, their work together is just getting started!

Extensive Diabetic Camp and teaching experience with 30+ years of Diabetes experience between us.
